Affiliated with the Royal Horticultural Society, DHS has a long heritage with evidence that its shows were taking place more than 100 years ago. People were invited to one held in Lower Park, Dedham in 1914 to be entertained by the band of the Royal Hussars!
Today there are more than a hundred members of all ages; most live in Dedham, but others are welcome from nearby villages and as far as Ipswich or Colchester. Whoever they are, they all love being in their gardens or on their plots. All joined the Society to learn more, share their successes (and bemoan the inevitable failures) and maybe win a trophy in a show. Annual membership is only £10 per person, which includes free entry to most events during the year and subsidised pricing on our annual day trip. Guests and non-members are welcome at all times, but there may be a small admission fee at some events.
Members elect their committee every year. Besides the officers (Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary), there are several Committee Members who manage DHS finances, collect annual subscriptions and arrange events throughout the year. Read more about the Committee Members by clicking on the menu or here.
We are looking for two additional people to join the committee, but – if you don’t feel you can commit the time – perhaps you might be able to help out at an events or two? Please do get in touch if so.
If you have a question about the Society or would like more information about joining, just email dedhamgardening@gmail.com. Dedham gardening
